CLEAN SHEET APPROVED

Senate unanimously approves Clean Sheet, following sanction for Lula

Uol News

The Senate unanimously approved on Wednesday (18) Clean Sheet design, which prevents the registration of candidacies of politicians with convictions for serious crimes after collegial decision of Justice (more than one judge). The ineligibility is eight years after completion of sentence.
As the Senate has not changed the design approved by the House of Representatives last week, the bill now goes to the sanction of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. There is no consensus, however, for law enforcement in the October election. For some, if the project shall be punished by Lula before the conventions that define the candidates, the rules can be applied, other lawmakers say the proposal would have been approved in 2009 in order to effect this year. The sheet
Lima is a project of popular initiative, received 1.6 million signatures and was presented to Congress in September last year.
Earlier, the acting president, José Alencar, defended the bill's passage. "I've asked to vote [the Clean Record], Brazil needs it. Indeed, impunity can not continue in the country, there must be discipline in all the investigations and also in law enforcement," said Alencar. * With information
